Top 10 uses for window screens

As well as selling a variety of mesh products we also sell screening systems.

Window screens (sometimes referred to as fly screens) are popular in America. They are often seen in American films and within American TV programmes. Interestingly, they are becoming increasingly popular in the UK.

The reasons include health and safety; the rise in the number of allergy sufferers; and challenges with the animal kingdom. Here is a list of the top 10 uses for window screens:

  1. To comply with food hygiene regulations.
  2. Keep insects out, i.e. flies, wasps and mosquitoes. Especially important for people suffering from allergies and / or phobias (especially spiders!)
  3. Keep midges out.
  4. Keep pets in – householders and breeders.
  5. Keep pets out – prevent next doors' cat from getting into children’s bedrooms.
  6. Keep rodents out.  We won't mention rats (Ooops).
  7. Protect against pollen.
  8. To Filter UV and reduce direct heat from sunlight.
  9. To cover air vents.
  10.  To prevent people from throwing items through windows.

Our sister company, Window Screens UK, supply a wide range of screen systems for windows and doors. All screens are available as DIY kits or Pre Made screens.

Star of the stage and TV – well nearly!

So here you have it - its “blog off time” - our very first blog. Strangely enough it’s all about mesh.

We set Mesh UK up earlier this year to run alongside our screening business www.flyscreensuk.co.uk

As we now use more and more types of insect mesh, we thought it would be a good idea to expand the range to other types of mesh and offer these on a new site - hence the creation of www.meshuk.co.uk

Since the beginning of the year we’ve attracted over 500 new customers, all using mesh, most for varying needs. Some of the more unusual include:

  • An amateur dramatic society who wanted to make a screen door for a stage production
  • A school teacher who wanted to make paper in a classroom exercise
  • A TV production company that needed to make a window look old

Of course many just wanted to keep insects out of their house or business, but it’s always great to have a challenge, something we feel we respond to very well.

This business has already put us in touch with some interesting customers and I’m sure there will be many more. Watch this space…
